Polynucleotides vs. Profhilo: What is the Difference?

If you follow skincare trends on Instagram or TikTok, you have likely heard of Profhilo, the injectable moisturiser, and polynucleotides, often nicknamed the salmon facial.

At Auracle Medical Aesthetics Medical Aesthetics in Wye, the most common question we hear during consultations is, they both improve skin quality, so which one do I actually need?

While both treatments rejuvenate the skin without changing your facial structure, they work in very different ways. Here is the medical breakdown to help you decide.

Profhilo: The Injectable Moisturiser

Think of Profhilo as a giant drink of water for your skin. It is made of ultra pure hyaluronic acid. When injected, it spreads under the skin and floods the tissue with deep hydration.

  • What it does: Boosts hydration and gives a dewy glow. It also stimulates collagen to tighten superficial skin laxity.
  • Best for: Dry, dull, or crepey skin that needs radiance. Excellent for a pre event glow.
  • The Analogy: When a grape dries out, it becomes a raisin. Profhilo puts the water back in so the raisin becomes a grape again.

Polynucleotides: Regenerative Medicine

Polynucleotides are not for hydration, they are for repair. Derived from filtered DNA fractions, they work as biostimulators. They activate fibroblasts, instructing them to behave like younger cells.

  • What it does: Repairs damaged cells, reduces inflammation, treats dark circles, and strengthens thin or ageing skin.
  • Best for: Under eye darkness, acne scarring, rosacea, and fragile skin needing structural support.
  • The Analogy: If your house has a crack in the wall, Profhilo is the paint that looks nice. Polynucleotides are the cement that fixes the crack.

So, Which One Should You Choose?

  • Choose Profhilo if: You want overall hydration, a glow, or tighter skin on the face or neck.
  • Choose polynucleotides if: You have dark circles, acne scars, or thin skin that needs strengthening.

Can You Have Both?

Yes. They are an excellent pairing. Polynucleotides repair targeted problem areas, such as the under eyes, while Profhilo hydrates and brightens the rest of the face.

If you are unsure which treatment is right for you, book a consultation at our clinic in Wye so we can assess your skin quality.
